The coin
Lahore, being one of the major cities during Mughal rule was
one of Jahangir’s principal mints. Jahangir’s partiality for Lahore as a
residence is well shown by the fine series of rupees he issued there.[i]
The English poet John Milton, who penned "Agra and Lahore, the Seat of the
Great Mughal" in 1670, was captivated by Lahore's reputation for beauty.
The letters are seen resting on a background of filigree,
making this piece another stunning example of Jahangir's currency.
